Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 3 pieces ripe avocados Look for avocados that yield slightly when pressed.
  • 1 small lime, juiced Plus extra lime juice to taste.
  • 1 small garlic clove, finely minced Or a pinch of garlic powder if in a rush.
  • 1 handful cilantro, chopped Optional but recommended for flavor.
  • 1-2 tablespoons finely chopped red onion
  • 1 small tomato, seeded and diced Optional for added freshness.
  • 1 piece jalapeno or serrano, finely chopped Adjust heat according to preference.
  • to taste salt and black pepper Season generously for best flavor.
  • for serving chips Thick tortilla chips are recommended.

Method

Preparation
  1. Cut the avocados, remove the pits, and scoop into a bowl. Mash with a fork until mostly creamy but still has some chunks.
  2. Add lime juice right away, as it wakes up the flavor and helps slow browning.
  3. Stir in garlic, onion, cilantro, tomato, and chile if using.
  4. Season with salt, mix, taste, and season again until it is to your liking.
  5. Let it sit for 5 minutes if possible for the flavors to meld.

Notes

Double the recipe for larger gatherings and use a wide bowl for serving. Keep chips separate until serving to maintain crispness.
