Ingredients
  

For the Apple Filling
  • 3-4 medium apples Honeycrisp or Granny Smith preferred for tartness.
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2-3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla Optional but recommended.
For Assembly
  • 2 cups whipped topping or whipped cream
  • 1.5 cups crushed cookies or graham crackers
  • to taste as needed extra caramel sauce For drizzling, store-bought or homemade.
Optional Add-Ins
  • to taste chopped pecans
  • to taste mini chocolate chips
  • to taste flaky salt Sprinkle over top.

Method
 

Cooking Apples
  1. Peel and chop apples into small chunks.
  2. In a pan over medium heat, melt butter and add apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt.
  3. Stir occasionally until apples are soft, about 8 to 10 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla, if using.
Preparing Crumb Layer
  1. Crush cookies or graham crackers until fine and sand-like.
  2. Optionally, mix in 1 tablespoon of melted butter for richness.
Building the Dessert Cups
  1. In clear cups, add a spoonful of crumbs, followed by a spoonful of apples, and then a layer of whipped topping.
  2. Repeat layering as space allows, finishing with a caramel drizzle and any optional toppings.
Chilling (Optional)
  1. You can serve immediately, but chilling for 30 minutes helps flavors meld.
