Ingredients
  

For the Bars
  • 1 cup unsalted butter Browned
  • 1 cup brown sugar Packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips Plus extra for topping

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a light-colored pan, melt the butter over medium heat, stirring frequently until it turns golden brown and smells nutty.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the browned butter with the brown sugar and granulated sugar. Mix until well combined.
  4. Add in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined.
  7. Fold in the chocolate chips, reserving some for sprinkling on top.
  8. Pour the batter into a greased 9x13 inch metal pan and smooth the top. Sprinkle reserved chocolate chips over the batter.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the edges are golden and the center is set but still soft.
  2. Remove from the oven and let the bars cool completely in the pan before slicing.

Notes

Store sliced bars in an airtight container for up to 4 days at room temperature. For longer storage, refrigerate for up to a week or freeze individually wrapped bars for up to 2 months. To keep them soft, place a slice of bread in the container.
