Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4-6 cups Canned baked beans (two large cans)
  • 6-10 slices Bacon Depends on preference for bacon.
  • 1/3 cup Brown sugar Add more if you like them sweeter.
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce
  • 2-3 tablespoons Ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Yellow mustard
  • 1/2 cup Chopped onion Optional but recommended.
  • a few cracks Black pepper

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. Cook the bacon in a skillet until browned but not crispy. Scoop it onto a paper towel and chop into bite-size pieces. Keep about 1 tablespoon of the bacon grease in the pan if using onion.
  3. If using onion, toss it into the pan and cook for 3 to 4 minutes until softened.
  4. In a baking dish, stir together the canned beans, BBQ sauce, ketchup, mustard, brown sugar, black pepper, cooked onion (if using), and most of the chopped bacon. Save some bacon for topping.
Cooking
  1. Bake uncovered for about 45 to 60 minutes, stirring once halfway through if remembered.
  2. Let the beans sit for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a heartier version, you can add ground beef or other variations such as jalapenos for heat. Best if made ahead of time, reheats well.
