Ingredients
  

Taco Filling
  • 1 lb Ground beef (or turkey, chicken, or beans) Seasoned to taste
  • 1 can Refried beans or black beans (optional) Adds heartiness
  • 2 cups Shredded cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, or a taco blend) For topping
  • 1 small Diced onion For added flavor
  • 1 small Chopped jalapenos Optional for heat
Taco Toppings
  • 2 cups Shredded lettuce For topping
  • 1 cup Diced tomatoes or pico For freshness
  • 1 cup Sour cream or plain Greek yogurt Optional for creaminess
  • 1 cup Guacamole or sliced avocado For added richness
  • to taste Hot sauce For spiciness
Taco Shells
  • 12 pieces Hard taco shells Stand them up in the baking dish

Method
 

Prepare Ground Beef
  1. Start with a hot pan over medium high heat. Add the ground beef and break it up as it cooks.
  2. Season with salt and pepper while browning, then add taco seasoning once less pink.
  3. Drain excess grease to prevent soggy shells.
  4. Add a splash of water to the beef and let it simmer for a couple of minutes.
Assemble Tacos
  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In each taco shell, add a spoon of refried beans (if using), a spoon of seasoned beef, and a generous pinch of shredded cheese.
Bake Tacos
  1. Place the filled taco shells upright on a baking sheet.
  2. Bake for 8 to 12 minutes until the shells are crisp and the cheese melts.
  3. Let sit for 2 minutes before serving.
Serve
  1. Serve tacos with toppings on the side for everyone to customize.

Notes

To keep tacos crispy, serve wet toppings separately and add just before eating. Baking times may vary based on ovens.
