Baked Beans with Ground Beef

Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb Ground beef (80/20 recommended) You can use leaner if desired.
  • 2 cans Canned baked beans (large) Any brand works.
  • 1 medium Onion, chopped Yellow or sweet onion is best.
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced Optional, but recommended for flavor.
Sauce Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup Ketchup Adds sweetness.
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce Use your favorite flavor.
  • 1 tbsp Mustard Yellow mustard is classic.
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce Soy sauce can be used if unavailable.
  • 1 tbsp Brown sugar Optional, based on sweetness preference.
  • to taste Salt and pepper Adjust according to taste.

Method
 

Cooking the Ground Beef
  1. Start with a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and break it up with a spoon.
  2. Cook for a few minutes until browned, then add chopped onion and let's soften.
  3. Add garlic for the last 30 seconds to avoid burning.
  4. Drain excess grease if necessary, leaving a small amount for flavor.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Putting it Together and Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a baking dish, combine baked beans, ketchup, BBQ sauce, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar if using.
  3. Fold in the cooked beef mixture.
  4. Bake uncovered for 30 to 40 minutes until bubbling and thicker on top.
  5. For thicker texture, bake longer; cover with foil if it gets dark on top.
  6. Let sit for a few minutes to thicken and enhance flavors before serving.

Notes

Customize with bacon, spices, or vegetables as desired. Leftovers are great and can be frozen.
