Ingredients

Base Ingredients
  • 1 cup Old fashioned rolled oats Do not use quick oats.
  • 1 cup Milk of choice (dairy or non-dairy)
  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt or regular yogurt For extra creaminess.
  • 1 tablespoon Chia seeds Optional, helps with thickness.
  • 1 medium Apple Chopped small (sweet crisp apples work best).
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons Maple syrup or honey
  • a pinch Salt Enhances flavor.
Optional Add-Ins
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract Optional.
  • 1/4 cup Chopped nuts Optional.
  • 2 tablespoons Raisins Optional.
  • 1 tablespoon Nut butter Optional.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a jar or container, stir together oats, milk, yogurt, chia seeds (if using), cinnamon, maple syrup, and a tiny pinch of salt until well mixed.
  2. Fold in the chopped apple, ensuring pieces are small enough to soften slightly overnight.
  3. Put the lid on and refrigerate for at least 6 hours, preferably overnight.
Serving
  1. In the morning, stir again and add a splash more milk if it looks too thick.

Notes

Apple choices vary; for crisp apples, add them right before eating. If you want softer apples, mix them in the night before. Best eaten within 3-4 days if stored in the fridge; oats will thicken.
