Ingredients

Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup Apple cider Use fresh or high-quality bottled cider.
  • 1/2 cup Melted butter Can substitute with neutral oil.
  • 1/4 cup Neutral oil Optional, helps keep the bread moist if using only butter.
Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp Baking powder
  • 1 tsb Baking soda
  • 1 tsb Salt
  • 2 tsb Ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsb Ground nutmeg Use sparingly to avoid overpowering the flavor.
Add-ins
  • 2 cups Chopped apples Firm varieties such as Honeycrisp or Granny Smith.
Cinnamon Sugar Topping
  • 1/4 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 tsb Ground cinnamon

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients including the apple cider, melted butter, and neutral oil.
  3. In another bowl, mix the dry ingredients together: flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  4. Combine the wet and dry mixtures, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Fold in the chopped apples gently.
Baking
  1. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 55-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Finishing Touches
  1. While the loaf is baking, mix together the cinnamon sugar topping in a small bowl.
  2. After removing the loaf from the oven, let it cool for about 10 minutes, then brush the top with melted butter and sprinkle the cinnamon sugar topping.
  3. Allow the loaf to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

Store the bread at room temperature wrapped in plastic wrap to keep it moist for up to 2 days. For longer storage, freeze slices individually and thaw as needed.
