Fried S’mores Bombs

I came up with an idea for deep fried sโ€™mores recently and upon Googling it to see if anyone else had already done it my own recipe from over seven years ago came up as one of the top results. Yep, apparently Iโ€™ve been doing this blog for so long that I canโ€™t even remember all the things Iโ€™ve made over the yearsโ€ฆ.

Thatโ€™s OK though because this time around I came up with a much better way to make them.

Back in 2011 I wrapped graham crackers, Hersheyโ€™s chocolate bars and marshmallows in egg roll wrappers prior to deep frying them. This time around I ditched the egg roll wrappers completely and just dipped the marshmallows in chocolate and then rolled them in crushed up graham crackers, which acted as the breading. So, just like the sโ€™mores you make when youโ€™re sitting around a campfire these Deep Fried Sโ€™mores only have three ingredients you need to worry about.

I actually almost gave up on these Deep Fried Sโ€™mores because the first time I made them I was a little impatient and didnโ€™t freeze them prior to dropping them in my deep fryer, which caused the marshmallows to melt way too quickly and just caused a huge mess. I think I spent about 20 minutes cleaning all the melted marshmallow out of the holes in the fryer basket after that disaster, so if you make these just be sure they spend at least 30 minutes or so in the freezer prior to deep frying.

Iโ€™m glad I stuck it out and gave it another shot though because these Deep Fried Sโ€™mores ended up tasting amazing. A crunchy graham cracker crust, melted marshmallow on the inside and warm chocolate sauce? Just absolutely delicious!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of crushed graham crackers
  • 1/2 cup of flour
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • A pinch of salt
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 cup of milk
  • 12 marshmallows
  • 12 pieces of chocolate (about the size of a marshmallow)
  • Oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions :

  1. Mix together the crushed graham crackers, flour, baking powder, and salt in a shallow bowl.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the beaten eggs and milk.
  3. Skewer each marshmallow and a piece of chocolate together with a toothpick.
  4. Dip the marshmallow and chocolate into the egg mixture, then roll them in the graham cracker mixture until they’re nicely coated.
  5. Heat up some oil in a deep fryer or a large pot to about 375ยฐF (190ยฐC).
  6. Fry the coated marshmallows and chocolate, a few at a time, until they turn a lovely golden brown, which usually takes about 2-3 minutes.
  7. Once they’re fried, carefully remove them with a slotted spoon and let them drain on some paper towels.
  8. Before serving, give them a light dusting of powdered sugar.
