Back in the early 70’s, as a youngster, my parents and our family would help an elderly gentleman take care of his large yard as well as help him meet other needs. He was a retired doctor and a horticulturist. He hybridized day lilies. He was in his 80’s and had a hard time keeping up his yard.
In the area where he potted plants was a candy jar always full of orange slice candy. It was a real treat after having mowed, or weeded or whatever we helped with to have an orange slice candy. My dad and my brother and I just loved them.
It’s an awesome memory that brings back to mind the wonderful generosity and great sense of humor this great man had. Doc Switzer, you were a great friend! ~ Larry from North Carolina
