Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 tablespoons Butter Unsalted is preferred for better control over saltiness.
  • 1 cup Heavy cream For a rich and creamy texture.
  • 1 to 1.5 cups Freshly grated Parmesan cheese Grate it yourself for the best melt.
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced Optional, but highly recommended for flavor.
  • to taste Salt Adjust based on your taste.
  • to taste Black pepper Use freshly ground for the best flavor.
  • optional Small pinch of nutmeg Add for an extra depth of flavor.
  • optional Splash of pasta water Use if sauce thickens too much.

Method

Cooking
  1. Melt the butter in a pan over medium low heat. Keep it gentle.
  2. Add the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant, but do not let it brown.
  3. Pour in the heavy cream, and stir. Allow it to warm up and lightly simmer for 3 to 5 minutes.
  4. Turn the heat to low and start adding the Parmesan cheese a handful at a time, stirring continuously.
  5. Taste the sauce and add salt and pepper as desired. If it’s too thick, add a splash of warm pasta water.

Notes

Alfredo sauce is best served fresh. Reheat gently if leftovers are stored in the fridge. Grating the Parmesan yourself ensures a smooth texture. Consider serving with a side of tzatziki or a refreshing salad.
