Smothered Hamburger Steak Recipe

Warning: can become habit-forming and a weekly regular on your kitchen table. Good change of pace from traditional burgers, great served with mashed potatoes or rice. It’s so easy to tweak and add your own twist to this meal. Good Southern comfort food.

Made minor changes. I did have beef base or worchesterchire sauce so I omitted them and the fresh onion–I used a few tablespoons of onion soup mix instead. I only had 20 oz of hamburger–though I did not scale it.

10 Stars for Quick & Easy! The gravy is a wonderful taste. I too used 1/2 packet of Beefy onion. As the recipe states this can be easily tweaked to your liking. It is fast & Easy & thats what i look for.

So good! Hubby was in heaven. The gravy is great. We had it over mashed potatoes. I sauted about a cup of thinly sliced onion and added those to the gravy. Will make again!

Great little salisbury steak. I used a cube of beef boullion for the beef base and cut this in half except for the soup/water part. Very easy and very tasty too.

INGREDIENTS :

2 large eggs eggs
2 tablespoons minced onion
1 tablespoon beef base
½ teaspoon black pepper
3 slices white bread
2 pounds lean ground beef
1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
1 (10.75 ounce) can water
1 dash Worcestershire sauce

INSTRUCTIONS :

Step 1: Whisk together the eggs, onion, beef base, and pepper in a bowl. Tear the bread into large pieces, and place into the bowl. Let the bread soak for a few seconds and add the ground beef. Mix the meat into the egg-bread mixture, and form into 8 patties.

Step 2: Heat a large heavy skillet over medium-high heat, and fry the patties until they are browned and the meat is no longer pink in the center, about 8 minutes per side. Set the patties aside.

Step 3: Remove the excess grease from the skillet, and whisk the mushroom soup, water, and Worcestershire sauce together in the skillet until smooth. Place the patties back into the skillet, spoon sauce over them to cover, and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce the heat to a simmer, and cook until the sauce is thickened and the flavors have blended, about 20 minutes.
