Ingredients

  • 1 lb 1 thinly sliced beef sirloin or rib-eye steak

  • 2 tablespoons 2 olive oil, divided

  • 1 medium 1 onion, thinly sliced

  • 1 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced

  • 1 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

  • 6 cups 6 French bread, cubed

  • 2 cups 2 provolone cheese, shredded

  • 1/4 cup 1/4 mayonnaise

  • 2 tablespoons 2 Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 teaspoon 1 garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon 1 onion powder

Directions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the thinly sliced steak and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until cooked to your preferred level of doneness. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil. Sauté the sliced onions and bell peppers until they are softened and slightly caramelized. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Remove from heat and set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the cubed French bread, shredded provolone cheese, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well to ensure the bread is coated evenly.
  • Spread half of the bread mixture in the bottom of a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Layer the cooked steak strips over the bread mixture.
  • Spread the sautéed onion and bell pepper mixture over the steak.
  • Top with the remaining half of the bread mixture, pressing it gently to create an even layer.
  • Cover the casserole with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Remove from the oven and let the casserole rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
