Desserts are what make the world go round and Delicious Famous Cream Puffs are on the top of our list.
It’s a recipe as old as time and we did not change it too much to keep the nostalgic feeling of comfort you know and love from this bite-sized snack. A rich creamy center and a fluffy, buttery puff are the best combinations for a quick snack. Add these into the freezer for a frozen snack on a hot day or sneak a snack during your next zoom meeting (don’t let anyone see them or they will be begging you to make them some.)
Delicious Famous Cream Puffs are made with heavy whipping cream, vanilla, and instant vanilla pudding mix. The filling is so fluffy you will definitely need a napkin (or even a bib) when eating these! This recipe creates a perfect ratio for filling to pastry to fill the center of your homemade pastry without overdoing it.
The puff ingredients are similar to a simple cake batter and is dense enough to hold up to the filling without becoming soggy. No one likes soggy snacks!
When you need a fast and fabulous treat to feed a crowd, this is it! I made about 24 delicious cream puffs from this recipe and the filling makes enough for you to generously please each one.
Ingredients
For the puffs:
8 Tbsp. Butter unsalted
2 tsp. Vanilla extract
1 C. All purpose flour
4 Large eggs
Pinch of salt
For the cream filling:
2 C. Heavy whipping cream
⅓ C. Whole milk
1 tsp. Vanilla extract
1 Box Instant vanilla pudding mix
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
In a saucepan over medium high heat on the stove, add the butter, water and vanilla extract for the puffs. Bring to a boil, stir until the butter is melted completely, and then remove from the heat.
Immediately add the flour and pinch of salt, and stir continuously until a well combined dough has formed.
Add the dough to a mixing bowl, and beat on low until it has cooled down.
Mix the eggs into the dough one at a time. Be sure each egg is completely combined before adding another.
Use a cookie scoop or tablespoon to put drops of batter onto a parchment or silicone mat lined baking sheet.
Bake for 20-25 minutes until puffed up and lightly browned.
Let cook completely.
Mix together all of the ingredients for the filling until stiff peaks have formed.
Cut each cream puff in half.
Pipe the filling onto one side of the cream puff, and top it with the other.
Dust with some confectioners sugar before serving if desired.
