French Fry Casserole is comfort food extraordinaire! This simple casserole can be assembled in a matter of minutes.
The bottom layer is a seasoned ground beef topped with creamy mushroom and cheese sauce followed by a crispy golden French fries.I know French fries may not be the first ingredient you think of when it comes to casseroles, but once you try this recipe, you’ll see how well it works.
We buy lots of frozen French fries here for a quick side dish for dinner. I also use them to make poutine.
I had a craving for French fries and thought to try it out in a casserole recipe. I’m so glad I did because it was delicious and a hit with my family. I’ll definitely be making this recipe again!
Ingredients:
1 pound frozen French fries
1 pound ground beef
1 small onion, chopped
1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup milk
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
Cook the French fries according to package instructions until they are crispy and golden brown.
In a separate pan, cook the ground beef and onion over medium-high heat until the beef is no longer pink and the onion is translucent. Drain any excess fat.
In a small bowl, whisk together the condensed cream of mushroom soup and milk until smooth.
Layer the French fries in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
Spoon the cooked ground beef and onion over the French fries.
Pour the mushroom soup mixture over the ground beef and spread it out evenly.
Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
